Erin H Kim | AMFT

Associate Marriage & Family Therapist  #160595

Trauma-informed therapy for individuals struggling with anxiety, shame, and relational wounds.

If you are struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, and shame, please know that you are not alone. On the outside, you may be used to putting on a brave face by showing up for others or appearing strong, but internally, you may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or isolated. If you find yourself repeating patterns in relationships or feeling disconnected from your internal world, you have come to the right place.

I work with young adults, adolescents, and children who have experienced traumatic events that continue to impact their daily functioning, relationships, and sense of self.

Many of the clients I’ve supported experience symptoms as a result of:

• relational wounds
• family conflict
• bullying
• other painful life experiences

Who I Work Best With

I often work with:

• adolescents and young adults navigating identity, relationships, and life transitions
• individuals struggling with anxiety, shame, or low self-worth
• clients healing from trauma, bullying, or relational wounds
• children and teens who feel emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected
• Asian American clients navigating cultural and family expectations

Challenges Clients May Be Facing

When individuals feel emotionally unsafe, they may turn to ways of coping that provide temporary relief but may impact them negatively in other ways.

Some clients resort to:

• self-harm
• isolation
• addictive behaviors

Others withdraw from close relationships or struggle to feel connected with those around them. Many describe feeling stuck in the tension of wanting to change while also wanting to stay in what feels familiar. This tension can be frustrating and confusing.

My Approach

In our work together, my priority is helping you feel emotionally safe. Therapy with me is a calm, nonjudgmental space where you are free to share your honest thoughts—even the ones that can feel shameful or hard to articulate.

In a typical session, we will:

• explore the context of your experiences
• gently process the emotions connected to those experiences
• reflect on patterns that may have developed over time

My style is gentle, emotion-focused, and trauma-informed.

I integrate Emotion-Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—for which I have received EMDRIA-approved basic training—to help clients process traumatic memories. I also draw from attachment-based approaches, including How We Love Couples Therapy, to help clients develop healthier patterns of communicating with their partners.

Cultural Background

As a Korean American therapist, I am deeply attuned to the Asian American experience, particularly being raised in immigrant or multicultural households. I understand the complexity of navigating language and cultural barriers within a family system as well.

These experiences can shape how we view ourselves, our relationships, and our boundaries. In therapy, I hope to work together to navigate the healing journey with these cultural nuances in mind.

Faith & Spirituality

Faith can be an important agent of healing for some, while for others it may be the root of trauma and hurt.

If you would like to integrate faith into our sessions, I welcome the work of the Spirit into our work together. The secure love and abundant grace of God can be a comfort to believers throughout their therapy journey.

At the same time, I understand that religion can be a complicated topic for many people. I provide a safe space for clients who may have experienced hurt or confusion from religious environments and allow the client to initiate the integration of faith into our sessions if they would like.

Therapy is a place where you can openly share your beliefs, doubts, and wrestlings without fear of judgment.

Considering Therapy

If you have been considering seeking therapy but feel unsure of where to start, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Beginning therapy can bring up many different feelings, and you do not have to navigate those feelings alone. When you are ready to begin, I look forward to meeting with you.
